2013 Rhode Island Solar Energy Rebates and Incentives
Several Rhode Island solar energy rebates and incentives make going solar in Rhode Island easier on the budget. Solar system purchases and installations are exempt from sales tax as well as property tax hikes.
Rhode Island Government Solar Energy Rebates + Incentives
Rhode Island law grants cities and towns the option to offer a residential property tax exemption on solar electric systems. Systems in towns that do not exercise the exemption option are covered by a state-wide law which requires they not be assessed at more than the value of a conventional energy production system.
Solar PV systems in Rhode Island are exempt from all state sales tax.
Other 2013 Rhode Island Solar Energy Rebates + Incentives
The Rhode Island Renewable Energy Fund (RIREF) is offering an incentive on new solar pv systems up to 10kW of 25% of the system’s cost, up to $10,000 per system. Homeowners must have scheduled or completed a home energy audit at the time of grant application.
Residential grant applications must be submitted in groups of between 3 and 20. This can make it a difficult incentive to procure on your own, but Real Goods Solar will be pooling RI residents who go solar and submitting group applications on their behalf.
