The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for providing engineering deliverables that meet contractual, schedule and budget requirements for a portfolio of projects. This individual will work with project management and project development representatives to review and define engineering scopes of work and develop design schedules to meet internal and external commitments. The Senior Design Engineer will be mainly reviewing the accuracy and consistency of deliverables generated by the design engineers and design consultants, but will also be expected to complete project tasks individually. Finally, the Senior Design Engineer will be continually mentoring the design engineers to improve the technical depth of the commercial engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with internal RGS Energy Design Engineers to design commercial and utility scale solar electric systems including roof-mounts, fixed ground-mounts, tracking ground-mounts and carports
- Provide design progress visibility to project management, project development and engineering management as necessary
- Coordinate with customers, project partners (development, finance, construction), utilities and AHJs as RGS Energy technical lead
- Coordinate with external professional engineers of multiple trades including; civil, structural, geotechnical and electrical in order to define scopes of work, monitor progress and ensure deliverables meet project requirements
- Review RFPs and coordinate short lead time tasks with project development and design engineers
- Conduct bid walks for proposals and site evaluations for system designs
- Select optimal equipment for site and customer specific requirements
- Use modeling software to create system production estimates
- Provide technical support during construction, startup, testing, system commissioning and performance monitoring
- Evaluate new equipment and design tools
- Travel is necessary, estimated (30) days per year
Essential Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering is preferred
- 5 or more years of experience designing power systems, preferably power generation
- Solar design and installation experience highly desirable
- Knowledge of CAD software is required, experience with AutoCAD is preferred
- Experience using electrical design tools is required
- Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code
- Knowledge of system production estimation software highly desirable, experience with PVSyst is preferred
- Ability to organize and lead small groups and meetings
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of medium voltage electrical design preferable
- Detail-oriented, with high standard of quality for deliverables
- Candidate must speak fluent Spanish
- Candidate must be able to travel outside the United States
- Experience with international work is highly desirable
