Job Information

The Project Development Design Engineer is responsible for providing engineering consultation and deliverables that support developing projects in the RGS Energy pipeline. This individual will work with Project Development and Estimating to design the technical features of a PV system that meet the project stakeholder requirements. The majority of the workload will be low-detail, short lead time deliverables to support RGS Energy proposals.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Review Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and define technical requirements for PV system
  • Prioritize short-lead deliverables with Project Development, Estimating and Engineering management as necessary
  • Work with Estimating to ensure enough details are provided for different levels of pricing accuracy
  • Coordinate with customers, project partners (development, finance, construction), utilities and AHJs as RGS Energy technical lead
  • Coordinate with external professional engineers of multiple trades including: civil, structural, geotechnical and electrical in order to define scopes of work and review proposals
  • Conduct bid walks for proposals and site evaluations for system designs
  • Select optimal equipment for site and customer-specific requirements
  • Use modeling software to create system production estimates
  • Evaluate new equipment and design tools
  • Some travel is necessary, estimated (12) days per year

 
Essential Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • Two or more years of experience designing power systems, preferably power generation
  • Solar design and installation experience highly desirable
  • Knowledge of CAD software is required, experience with AutoCAD is preferred
  • Knowledge of Google Sketch-Up or equivalent 3D modeling software is preferred
  • Experience using electrical design tools is required
  • Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Knowledge of system production estimation software is required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of medium voltage electrical design preferable
  • Detail oriented, with high standard of quality for deliverables
  • Candidate must have very flexible work style as priorities frequently change last-minute
