Real Goods Solar Executive Team
Kam Mofid brings to Real Goods Solar a wealth of knowledge and experience in the solar industry. Prior to joining Real Goods Solar Kam was General Manager of Global Residential and Light Commercial Systems at SunEdison. Before joining SunEdison, Kam was President of Mainstream Energy, the parent company of REC Solar and AEE Solar where under his leadership the company achieved substantial growth and improvements.
Prior to his entry into the solar sector, Kam served as President of Teleflex Power Systems, and at Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Company, as Director of Materials and Logistics. In the earlier part of his career, Kam held engineering and operations management positions at General Motors where he was also names a Fellow of the Corporation. Kam holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, a M.Sc. degree in Manufacturing Management from Kettering University, and a M.Sc. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Industrial & Systems Engineering.
Tony DiPaolo previously served as President and Chief Financial Officer of Incentra Solutions (now Presilient), a provider of information technology and storage management solutions to enterprises, where he managed service providers in North America and Europe. Prior to Incentra, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer for Roomlinx, a publicly traded media and entertainment services company. Tony’s background also includes experience in executive financial positions for public companies in the equipment finance industry, and he was part of a successful wireless technology startup company which was eventually acquired. Tony has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Denver and is a licensed certified public accountant.

Josh Price joined Real Goods Solar in 2012 as the VP of Operations. Since he joined the solar industry, Josh has managed over 30MW of commercial and residential solar systems. His previous solar experience includes SunEdison (as VP of Operations) and REC Solar (as the VP/GM) for the Residential and Light Commercial Business Unit. Prior to solar, Josh worked as a project manager for Pulte Homes. While there, he was part of their Top Gun management program and oversaw more than $200MM in projects. Josh holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management with a minor in Business from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. Growing up in the Appalachians and the Rockies, Josh developed a love of the outdoors and now works to preserve our natural resources through renewable energy.
Tim Gillen came into the solar industry in 2011 and has over 22 years of successful business experience in retail, sales and small business ownership. Tim changed careers with one thought in mind – that it is time for our country to become energy independent and it is our individual responsibility to replace the current forms of energy we use with clean, cheap power. The time is now and solar is our path to that goal. When not proclaiming the real financial and environmental benefits of solar, Tim loves to travel and has been all over Europe and North America.
Real Goods Solar Operations Team
Charlie started in the solar industry with Solar Wrights in 2007, but was introduced to the power of solar as a teenager, when his parents built a passive solar home for the family in the late 1970s. Charlie spent five years working as a conservation planner and 12 years in construction and carpentry. He has a M.S. in Natural Resources Science and enjoys woodworking and spending time in the outdoors with his wife and three daughters.
Damien joined Real Goods Solar in 2011 after 20 years in the construction industry, where he earned his Class B General Contractor’s License, and four years in the solar industry as an NABCEP-certified installer, project manager and operations manager. He joined Real Goods Solar because of its passion about renewable energy and what it stands for. In his free time, Damien enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and enjoying life to the fullest.
Jennifer is the operations manager for the Central California office of Real Goods Solar. She has been here since October 2006 working in Operations. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in human resource management at California State University, Fresno. Prior to working with Real Goods Solar, Jennifer worked for 5 years as a store manager for a large junior clothing retailer in Fresno. Jennifer came to Real Goods looking for a company that treated their employees like family and had a reputation of quality work; she has happily found that here. Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys being with her husband and daughter as well as focusing on her other passion, volunteering for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Sergio comes to the Real Goods team with multiple years of operations management experience in the solar and homebuilding industries, and is focused on delivering world-class customer service to our customers. Sergio has been a proven leader with expertise in building a great culture and cohesive, results-driven teams. With over 3 Megawatts of residential solar system installation experience, Sergio has dealt with multiple counties in Southern California and knows what it takes to navigate the jurisdictional and utility requirements to facilitate customers’ installations in a timely manner. When not bringing solar to the mainstream, Sergio spends his time with family and friends, enjoying all the great outdoor pleasures Southern California has to offer.
John Barry has worked in a variety of industries, including sports massage therapy, construction and painting. As the vice president of customer relations for a major home construction company in San Diego, he managed all aspects of warranty work while delivering quality homes and exceptional customer service. John is pleased to join the solar industry to combine his desire to improve the environment with his love of the outdoors.
Mark’s background is in solar construction management. He served as the Director of Operations for a local Colorado solar installer before joining the Real Goods Solar family. His primary role as the Director of Operations was to guide the company while it grew toward its goal of being a ten-million-dollar-per-year company in an organized and efficient manner. He developed processes to maximize efficiency as the company scaled up, forecasted personnel needs, and managed day-to-day operations.
James earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1988 and worked in the industrial controls and automation industry for 15 years before entering into the solar industry. James founded ISI Solar, a recognized solar installer in lower New York state, and in 2010 his company was acquired by Alteris Renewables, which subsequently became part of Real Goods Solar in 2011. As Regional Field Operations Manager, James is able to utilize his extensive experience to lead the residential operations team for the Mid-Atlantic Region. In addition to solar PV, James is a proponent of fuel cell and electric vehicle technologies. James is NYSERDA-recognized as well as NABCEP-certified for solar PV.

Before entering the solar industry, Ben spent 30 years in the wooden boat building, repair and restoration business. During this time, he worked with the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut and in a partnership working on 10′ row boats to 72′ yachts. In 2007, Ben started looking for a career change and became a residential solar installer. He moved up to lead installer, then to a position as Project Manager, and finally to the East Coast Production Manager title he holds today.
Will White has been installing solar panels since 2005. Over the years he has worked on both the sales and operations sides of the business – installing everything from small off-grid systems to large commercial projects. He is a NABCEP certified PV and Solar Thermal installer and currently manages the field crews in New England. Will lives with his wife and daughter in an off-grid straw bale house in Central Vermont.
Real Goods Solar Sales Team
Justin came into the solar industry in early 2011 after working for an electrical engineering firm with the Department of Energy for several years, doing commercial building efficiency commissioning and design. He has 12+ years of successful business experience in sales management, real estate, training and project management, and business ownership. Justin entered the solar industry in sales to “pay his dues” and was then promoted to management. This coincided with the mainstream adoption of modern solar financing and solar becoming an option for the masses. He believes now is the time for our country to gain energy independence and it is our individual responsibility to replace current energy standards with cleaner, cheaper power. When not consulting on solar and its financial and environmental benefits, Justin loves to travel and photograph waterfalls, spend time with his family and children, and work on building up their sustainable, self-sufficient property in Northern California.
Jeff brings over 20 years of experience in developing and building sales teams. He started in the solar industry in 2010 with Solar Universe. After his first year as a solar consultant he quickly moved into a management position. Prior to the solar industry he developed and grew a successful mortgage business. During his 18-year mortgage career he was able to hone his skills and talent as a leader in residential mortgage consulting. Jeff’s passion for the solar industry comes from his belief that the time for us to eliminate our dependency on our planet’s natural resources is now. In his spare time he enjoys coaching youth sports and spending time with his family.
Tom Cotter is a passionate clean energy advocate, business leader, social entrepreneur, activist, and ordained minister. Tom is Chairman and President of the International Green Industry Hall of Fame and serves on the boards of both the Solar Living Institute and Restore Hetch Hetchy. A desire to re-think and build a positive, healthy future has moved Tom to launch or engage in many local and national initiatives to educate and raise awareness around environmental stewardship. He is a contributing blogger and writer for multiple websites. Tom’s roles in ministry, business, education, the community and his family have provided a unique perspective on the challenges we face and the changes required to overcome them.
Tom drives an electric car, has solar on his home and uses a bin of red worms to turn kitchen scraps and junk mail into nutrient rich compost for his garden. Tom enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and three children, such as cycling, hiking and geocaching.
For over a decade, Brian has coached and mentored some of the top teams in the solar and home improvement industries. His commitment to a positive customer experience and his passion for solar energy create loyal customers and repeated referrals. Previously Brian owned and operated an ecotourism company focused on international kayak expeditions. In his free time he has moved from the extreme to the serene as he enjoys spending time with his children, showing them the beauty of nature.

Mark joined Real Goods Solar in the summer of 2012 after two years of managing sales and installation of residential solar for UR Solar Power throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Mark came to the solar industry after 20 years in media and marketing, managing successful sales teams to exceed customers’ expectations. A graduate of Penn State University, Mark and his wife live in the Philadelphia area with their four children. He is extremely committed to helping other families along the eastern seaboard save money on their utilities while building a cleaner, more eco-friendly power reliance for future generations.
Jim Oliva has been helping homeowners throughout New England upgrade their homes for over two decades in both a sales and management capacity. This unique experience has allowed him to develop a sales staff dedicated to providing customers with exceptional service. Jim’s motivation for being in the solar industry is to help homeowners reduce their dependency on fossil fuels – especially foreign sources – and to help lower their utility costs. He also sees the overall initiative for greener living as pivotal to helping strengthen our country’s economy. Jim has been married for 16 years to his wife Melissa, and has two boys, Nicholas (15) and Noah (11). He is also an avid golfer and road biker.
